Phobias are a common anxiety disorder, and fear of cats is a common form of phobia. It sounds like your friend has a pretty severe case of this specific phobia. Unfortunately, untreated, phobias tend to become progressively worse over time. The good news is that phobias are very treatable, and with the right psychotherapist, your friend has a good chance of reducing her fear significantly. Assuming that her fear of cats is unrelated to more generalized anxiety or other issues, she could begin seeing results very quickly, and the therapy process could be relatively short-lived. |
