If this is a recurrent problem (not specifically related only to a current stressor), your best bet is probably CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy) with reference to simply eliminating the behavior. Unfortunately, it is extremely hard to do "self therapy" (even for trained therapists). Also, even if you were to somehow able to eliminate this behavior, who's to say that the stress would not manifest itself in another, perhaps even more problematic, fashion. A competent therapist can work with you through CBT and monitor any complications so as to deal with those (perhaps via other therapies).
