Charcot deformity is caused by neuropathy, usually, but not always secondary to diabetes. Generally, the destructive consequences of Charcot neuroarthropathy are restricted to the weightbearing joints of the foot and ankle.
I believe you can get Charcot type changes in the upper extremities, but it is usually accompanied by neuropathy caused by spinal disorders or injuries. |
