I have been searching for many years for my daughter who was born on April 1, 1961 at the Booth Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles. Her adoption was processed through what was then known as the Los Angeles County Bureau of Adoptions, now known as the Los Angeles County Children and Family Services. The name on her original birth certificate was Rita Mae Roberts.

She was adopted directly from the hospital to the home of her adopted parents. I have learned that her adopted parents were originally from Kansas and had been married for ten years at the time of the adoption. The mother was 37 years old and the father was 36 years old at the time of the adoption, so they would both be in their 80's at this time. The adopted mother was a secretary and housewife and the adopted father had some sort of a job in the auto parts industry. They were unable to have children, and the agency indicated that they were very open to telling her when she was old enough that she was adopted. It has always been my hope that she would someday want to find her biological mother.

I was never able to obtain a copy of the original birth certificate, and now I have discovered that the laws have changed and the California Department of Vital Records will not issue the original birth certificates of adoptees without a court order enabling them to open the file.

Is there a "search angel" out there in LA area who might be able to assist me in this search? It's been a long time and given that I am now 71 years of age, it would be wonderful to find her and hopefully have a reunion while there is still time. I never had any other children, so she is my only child. Giving her up for adoption was absolutely the worse decision I ever made in my life and if I had it all to do over again, I would never have gone through with it, but in 1961, women didn't have many choices and open adoptions were rare or unheard of. I gave her life and hopefully a happy and stable upbringing, which I was not able to do without family support.
