I live in NJ and pulled my boat out of the water about 4 weeks ago. I started to winterize and changed the engine oil, gear oil, added fuel stabilizer. I ran out of time and did not fog the engine.

My question is, do I need to fog? I can run the engine on land every 4 weeks or so using either the trash can method or the merc ear muffs. In either case, do I defeat the purpose of changing the gear oil and engine oil? Wouldn't I still be exposed to the possibility of water getting into the gear oil (we do get some stretches of below freezing temps) and carbon or whatever in the engine oil?

On the flip side, I'd rather not have to change my plugs in the spring if I can avoid it.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
