This coming Monday is one of the biggest feasts for the Catholic church, when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. This feast is a wonderful example of God’s love for mankind, because it is through the birth of Christ that we have any chance of eternal life.

We must also remember what Jesus does after his birth that makes this feast so important--dying on the cross for the sins of the entire world and effectively destroying death. The celebration of his birth is also a celebration of his future victory for us on the Cross.

While this time is great to spend with your family, let us also take some time to thank God for giving us his only son in order that he might die for each of us. This is why going to Mass on this day is so crucial for us, and that is why you find that churches are always filled up on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

Let us also remember the message that the angels said told the shepherds, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:14) Like the shepherds, we can take to heart the message of the angels in which we give all glory to God, and to be the instrument of peace in this world. Also, let us not forget what else the shepherds did when they heard this message. They did not stay with their sheep and ignore the angels, they got up and they went out to seek the son of God.

May the Peace of Christ Fill Your Soul.
