I suffered a calcaneous fracture on Sunday. My podiatrist immediately put me into a hard cast...which will be on for 3 months.
I am only one week out since the accident. And the pain is barely manageable, without Percocet every 4 hours. I have to set a timer because the pain always starts up before the 4 hour mark. I am now almost out of pain medication, and Tylenol doesn't work either.
My question is...how long can I expect to need pain medication while I'm in the cast?
My Dr said the first 4 days are the worst, and they surely have been. The pain is definitely easing up a bit, but not enough to function without some type of pain management.
Also, not sure if it matters, but I am a healthy 37 year old woman. I have broken my back and recovered, and this pain is comparably intense!
Any suggestions helpful. Thank you.
