HM1,
First off, thank you for taking on this assignment. Your junior Sailors need someone that can steer them in the right direction. I can really relate to the lack of support from NOSC FTS staff. In many cases, they're overtaxed with other issues and do not have time for CC duties. Anyway, you'll want to start by getting a quota to the 2 week Reserve specific CCC course in New Orleans. Great school and instructors. The CIN is R-501-0005 and you can find out all about prereqs. and course availability by going to www.navyreserve.navy.mil, sign in, mouse over the "commands" title in the upper left corner and selecting "nrpdc". Mouse over the "enlisted" title and you'll see "RCI". Attending the school is really mandatory before assuming the role. There is a ton of information that is given out, many of which I knew nothing about when I took over as CC. Hope this helps.
