Hi Tom,
I've got an old Bing that I found on the shoulder of I-8 in 1985. The tip of the nose and the fin were broken off, and whosever car it blew off of didn't think it was worth coming back for. I fixed the nose and glassed on a cutdown sailboard fin (you couldn't buy a longboard fin in '85) and rode it as my summer board for about ten years. A friend, Scott Henry, saw thew board in '95 and offered to restore it. When I found it it had an opaque olive green gel coat with a clear diagonal stripe and clear over the label. Scott took off the gel coat and replaced it with white with a purple stripe to hide the nose repair. We got the color scheme from a 1963 add in Surfer Magazine. Originally the board was about 9' and the number on the rear end of the stringer is 3250. Do you think you can find any info on the board? Scott did a beautiful job on the restoration and it proudly hangs over my front door. |
