Hi Paula,
Thanks for the reply to my last message.Cleveland Cliffs gave one of their ships, the William G. Mather to the Harbor Heritage society in Cleveland. I volunteered as docent for the last ten years, and then it was given to the Science Center.
Instead of a pat on the back, the Science Center wanted our social security numbers to see if any of us are predators. A recent headline in the Cleveland Plain Dealer sez, MUTINY ABOARD THE MATHER. SOME VOLUNTEERS SHIP OUT.Science center has new vision of ship's role.
Volunteers who gave freely of their time and energy are quitting. A retired engineer from North Olmstead (a 19-year volunteer, said, "We beat our knuckles bloody and it was fun."
Now as I look back, I was probably the first to abandon ship. I refused to give them any references and didn't sign last season or this season.
The Plain Dealer said, The Science Center's Staff should have come with "hats in hands to curry favor with the volunteers." which they failed to do.
I'll just turn that page over, and do something which should be as fulfilling. Enjoy the South.
Regards, George
