Barking is like talking,if he is trying to reach and bite, then that's definitely a no..Pull the chain ( a quick jerk ) to get his attention and say " heel " ( try with a friend walking another dog as practice )

Holding him down: put him belly up, legs in the air and rub his belly,but kind of hold him so he won't turn over..If he fights it right away,he is a dominant or alpha male, which means you have to work harder with him and keep him constantly in line, or he will walk all over you
