When my family and I, went to Scotland, we made sure we stopped at the Isle of Skye. Isle of Skye is the home of the fairies and also the home of several ghosts. At the Isle of Skye, our first stop was Dunvegan Castle, which is controlled by the Clan MacLeod. It is also the home of Fairy Tower and the Fairy Flag also known as the Bratach Shi. Seeing this flag, it looks like a piece of tattered cloth made of yellow silk. This flag is in the possession of Clan MacLeod.

DUNVEGAN PIPER
One of the ghosts is the Dunvegan Piper who embraces his Gaelic culture and locals have said they can hear his pipes on the castle's south tower. Some locals believe it could be a MacLeod, since the Dunvegan Castle has been the MacLeod's ancestral home for over 800 years. Other locals will tend to argue that the piper originated with the Clan MacCrimmon, who were the hereditary pipers for the MacLeods. The Clan MacLeod's battle cry is "Stand Fast" and perhaps that is why the piper continues to play his pipes, to display the strength and steadfast determination of the Clan MacLeod.

FAIRY FLAG SITH & FAIRY FLAG FAIRIES
It would appear that the Fairy Flag is also haunted. This piece of cloth that looks like a rag you would use to wash your car, is the actual heirloom of the Clan MacLeod. A close look at this flag, you are able to see intricate designs that look ancient. Historians believe the flag originates from either Syria or Rhodes and became the property of the Clan MacLeod during the Crusades. Another theory it came from early Viking raids. The reason for this theory is that the Norseman adventurer named Harald Hardrada who was an early ancestor of the MacLeods had boisterous claims of bringing a famous banner to Britain. They believe that banner to be the Fairy Flag. Many locals believe that the flag is protected by fairies. Some locals have claimed they saw little people guarding the flag. The little people are called the Sith and one Sith know as the Fairy Flag Sith is the main guardian of the flag. This guardian Sith is 6 inches tall and wears a bright red flowing robe and carries a long sword.

FAIRY PRINCESS
There was even a MacLeod Chieftain that fell in love with a fairy princess. The fairy princess fell madly in love with the chieftain and the princess begged her father to marry the chieftain. The princess father agreed to the marriage as long as the princess returned back to the fairy realm at the end of the year. The marriage took place and the princess gave birth to a son. The shawl that the fairy princess wore is believed to be that of the fairy flag. The shawl or the fairy flag is supposed to have magical properties and in the time of crisis, the Clan McLeod can summon help from the shawl. The Clan McLeod were able to use its magical powers three times in their time of need and is now protected forever by the Clan McLeod and the Fairy Flag Sith. A small woman wearing a yellow shawl is sometimes seen near the fairy flag. Locals believe that this is the Fairy Princess.

HUGH MacDONALD, MARGARET, THE HOUSEMAID & THE CASTLE DUNTULM PANTHER
Then about an hour away are the ruins of Castle Duntulm. This castle has some very angry ghosts from times past. The Clan MacDonalds were forced to flee the castle in 1730 by the Clan MacLeod. The angrish cries of four Clan MacDonald warriors are at times can be heard late at night. Locals and tourists say that the dungeons are haunted by Hugh MacDonald. Hugh had a terrible fate. He was caught trying to steal his family's land and was arrested and thrown into the dungeons. He was chained and fed salt beef with no water. He went raving mad and starved to death. Legend has it that he tried to eat his own hands before he died. Hugh's sworn enemy was Donald Gorm Mor. Donald captured and starved Hugh. Hugh is seen as a ghost fighting with other ghosts in the dungeons. Then a ghost named Margaret is heard howling in pain. Her legend says that she was involved in a domestic dispute with her husband and during that dispute lost an eye. This one eyed lady ghost is seen roaming the ruins of Castle Duntulm. On some nights, you can hear the hysterical screaming of a housemaid who was known to hold the son of a clan chief up to the window, so he could see the views, and in a tragic accident, dropped him out of the window and onto the rocks below. As punishment she was set adrift on a boat and eventually died in the open seas. Her spirit will never rest along with the other ghosts of Castle Duntulm. Some locals have also claimed to have seen a black panther that roams the hillsides and is known as the Castle Duntulm Panther. The locals believe this panther is
demonic in nature.
