several hundred visitors enjoyed the fort site today from 11:30 t0 5:30 and we had a great crowd for the patriotic program at 2:00 pm with Col. Hawkins Address attached above for your added enjoyment. You might be proud that Col. Hawkins threw out the first pitch tonight at the Pinetoppers baseball game at Luther Williams Field - with no mention of M.W. made during the introduction but only our July 4th Celebration and the Col.'s service on Gen. Washington' Staff. BBQ sales were way off this year, so I will plead with you to still buy some tickets ($12.50 each) to help make this fund raising benefit a real success. Our patriotic, educational program today along with Sue's great fiddling plus our Fort Hawkins hospitality which included lemonade & lemon cookies was a great success by all accounts from the many, diverse visitors that enjoyed the 4th at the Fort! So many thanks to Echo and Lynn for their continued dedication to our cause (and the patience and support of their husbands), to my own wife Lisa and son Ian for helping with the lemonade and BBQ service (the S.C.A. could not help this year after all), to Marion for greeting at our Friends tent, and to our champion BBQ ticket seller - Mary Lee. I will share some of the event's photos later - it was simply another glorious day at Fort Hawkins! Please consider purchasing those BBQ tickets and help make this 4th an even bigger success. Thanks to all who have contributed to our continued fort successes and today's July 4th Celebration once again clearly demonstrates why Fort Hawkins deserves and needs to be open daily to the public - then everyday will be the 4th of July! |
