A neuroma between the 1st and 2nd toes is rather unusual, and so I think that you may have instead meant, between the 2nd and 3rd toes and the 3rd and 4th toes.

What you have described is not generally the post-operative course, which, in my experience, is typically encountered following successful neuroma decompression surgery. But predictions as to how quickly and to what extent a nerve might recover, if at all, after decompression, is totally a guessing game. So, though the desired results have not yet been achieved, only time will tell.

Hopefully, your husband has discussed his concerns with his doctor. If not, he should. I would think that he should have been made aware of the surgeon's expectations of the post-operative course prior to his consenting to the surgery as, in my opinion and practice, such should be included in the surgical presentation and informed consent disclosure.

I personally prefer a neuroma excision rather than a decompression, if neuroma surgery is to be performed, but that is a matter of preference, and not a criticism of your husband's surgeon's choice.
