No, you misunderstood me. Haglund's deformity IS the bump as I had described it. So if you have such a bump, you probably DO have Haglund's deformity. In my opinion, the fact that you do not have physical pain would indicate that, assuming it is not something else which might require biopsy or removal, you need no surgical care . . . unless of course you consider some amount of difficulty in buying shoes a requisite for surgery. For minimal discofort, you might consider using heel pad sufficient to raise the bump above any irritating portion of the counter of the show, or creative padding on the back of the heel or inside the shoe. This condition is often seen in combination with a retro-calcaneal bursitis (inflammation of the normally occuring bursa between the Achilles tendon and the heel bone. If and when this should occur, both surgical and non-surgical treatment is available. |
