Hello. I've recently been diagnosed with a fractured sesamoid bone. I'm not sure if it's the lateral or medial, but it's the one closest to the second toe. This was a result of a direct injury to the ball of my foot from a soccer game. My podiatrist/surgeon recommended I take 6 weeks "rest" from soccer and wear a walking boot as much as possible to see if the bone heals on its own. She recommended non "pounding" cardio workouts such as treadmill, stationary bike, and eliptical machine. She said the only alternative is surgery to remove the fractured sesamoid bone. My question is this....if I opted for surgery can I live a normal, active life with only one sesamoid bone in the affected foot? Playing soccer means so much to me and I would hate to think the surgery could end this for me. What sort of lifestyle can I expect after the healing process from surgery? I am 36 years old.
Thanks,
