When we build vertical surface display units, we do exactly as you describe - we first adhere the tile to the surface with a general purpose adhesive, and then use a narrow head screw through the tabs (pre-drill the holes) to secure the tiles in place.

However, SnapStone is not designed, tested, warranted or recommended for wall applications. We'd recommend purchasing the raw (unassembled tile) for a matching wall application. Menards has the 12x12 raw tile available in packages of 13.
