Seldom does a week go by that I don't see a burn from a diabetic who soaked his feet. Diabetics (Especially if they have had poor control for a number years.) have an impaired ability to deal with hot and cold. Soaking in either extreme is not good for them in general unless done carefully and prescribed by a doctor. For example soaking is occasionally prescribed to heal an infection. Another problem with soaking is that it does not moisturize the skin it causes all skin oils to be floated a away and the water evaporates. Bathing too frequently also dries out the skin. Diabetics with a history of poor control generally have damage to their skin causing a tendency towards dry skin and must replace the oils their skin is not using with. Creams that have mostly water will also not be as helpful the body is full of water you need a layer of oil on the outside to protect you. |
