Monterey Beach Club is a private homeowner beach club on the northern barrier island of Toms River Township. The organization was formed in 1948 and has operated continuously since that time. The organization maintains an ocean front beach as well as a small beach on the Barnegat Bay.
Our lifeguard staff have always been professional. The organization is an Agency of the USLA and is in good standing with the State of New Jersey.
Keeping with our ongoing goal to maintain a safe beach, Monterey is now seeking to hire a lifeguard captain. This individual must be prepared to take operational control of the lifeguard staff. The individual must possess strong leadership skills. The individual must also have a minimum of 5 years ocean open water rescue experience. The individual must be able to work fulltime from June 27, 2015 through September 7, 2015. Additionally preseason and post season involvement will be required.
Monterey Beach is looking for an individual who can commit to a long term role as captain of our lifeguards. The individual must be willing to train all levels of lifeguards as well as maintain the USLA and Monterey Beach Club Lifeguard required training program.
The captain will report directly to the Beach Chairperson and be responsible for the training, control and supervision of the lifeguards, for maintenance of all bathing areas, and for the safety of persons swimming or otherwise using recreational facilities of the beach area.
Examples of work (Illustrative Only):
Arranges or participates in arrangement of Life Guard Duty schedules;
Supervises enforcement of beach regulations;
Supervises and participates in cleaning of the bathing area prior to and during operating hours;
Schedules, monitors and participates with Red Cross instructors in training Life guard in water safety principles and use of life saving equipment;
Maintains discipline among Life Guards;
Supervises and performs rescue operations, traveling to bathers in danger by means of swimming, rescue boat, rescue board, etc. and follows rescue procedures;
Supervises and administers first aid, CPR or AED as professional rescuer, to victims of an emergency, within limits of training;
Patrols beaches during operating hours;
Participates and makes reading the life guard staff for life guard tournaments, including USLA tournaments;
Required Knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes:
Thorough knowledge of principles of water safety; good knowledge of first aid, CPR and AED as professional rescuer; strong swimming skills; ability to meet and deal with the public effectively; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; good judgment; initiative; courtesy; resourcefulness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Minimum Acceptable Training and experience:
Five years ocean open water lifeguard. Scuba certification is a plus. Experience leading a team of individuals, being able to motivate seasonal employees.
Minimum hours per week are 40 (9:30 am – 5:30 pm /includes paid lunch break), this is a salaried position and based on experience and employer discretion salary will range from $6,000 to $10,000.
Final candidates will be interviewed by a committee made up of Monterey Beach Club homeowners.
