Last June, I had to jump off of my horse (emergency bail). I landed in sand and sprained my ankle. I did ice and elevation and weeks later, it just was not getting better. My family doctor ordered xrays and found no fractures.. He basically said there wasn't anything that he could do. That I had the option of a foot Dr or physical therapy. By this time I had started a new job and could not take any time off. Now it has been 10 months. It still hurts and I could always bear weight. My doctor couldn't tell me what a podiatrist could offer so I just thought he was passing the buck. Figured it just needed time. However I am wearing the outside of my shoe heels off and it is still swollen and tender. I went out and bought compression stockings to wear. They feel great for awhile, but needless to say, I have not been able to walk for long distances or climb many stairs, let alone run or ride my horse. It is painful to the touch (jump out of my skin sharp pain) if you roll your fingertip around on the point of the inside ankle bone and puffy just ahead of that towards the toes. I do streches, but I cannot do them without some ache and have to be careful to not overstretch. I still cannot leave during the day to go to PT. Any ideas? What could a Podiatrist offer that PT cannot? |
