Maybe that boot is actually causing more stress to the stress fracture.
Seek out a board certified POD that has surgery as his major area of patient care.

One has to register to be on but it is free.
It is people to people but many bright people and a lot of possible answers to foot problems.
Just throw out your concerns and people will give you some ideas. There is a special area for foot problems.
