For years I have been suffering from pain on the bottom and outside edge of my right foot. The pain began years ago when I was training for a running race. My training consisted of running up and down severely steep hills while wearing a 20 pound weighted vest. Originally my doctor told me it was plantars faciitis. She prescibed 600-800 mg. ibuprofen and told me to stay off my feet. I am a sheriff's deputy who typically wears boots and 20-25 extra pounds of equipment as part of my daily uniform. My understanding of plantars faciitis is that the pain is mostly in the heel. That is not the case with me. However, when I get out of bed in the morning my first few steps are extremely painful. I equate the pain to that of walking on broken glass. This pain also occurs when I have been off my feet for periods of time then begin to walk again. I still run about 4 miles of rolling hills a few times a week. I stand only 5'06" tall and weigh about 200 pounds. I lift weights regularly so I like to think I carry extra muscle weight but I know I could stand to lose 15-20 pounds. Also I have a calcium deposit (osgood slaughter?)just below my right knee. Are there any recommendations you could make to help me lessen and/or eliminate the pain in my feet. I have tried orthotics and expensive running shoes.
