As you are going to see a podiatrist for a definitive opinion hopefully in a couple of day, other than the use of rest and OTC analgesics it would probably be best not to do anything with your condition at this time as it might:

1. alter the symptoms, and make an accurate diagnosis more difficult.

2. be a treatment attempt which, without a diagnostic basis, might make your situation worse.

I could not even presumtively recommend ice or heat without knowing the status of your circulation and your tissue viability. When one uses ice, one must be certain to do so with caution, as, even in a otherwise appropriate patient, tissues can be damaged if too intense of a cold is employed and/or the ice is left in place for too long of a time. Similar cautions would apply to the use of heat. Again, I would suggest that, other than for the rest and the analgesics, you leave it basically alone for now and let the podiatrist see it in its natural and unaltered state in order to afford the best chance of an accurate diagnosis on which effective treatment might be based. But see a podiatrist without delay.
