There is no way that anyone could substantiate or challenge the diagnosis without a lot more information and a hands-on physical examination. But the combination of foot drop or inability to dorsiflex, along with the clawing of the toes would suggest a neurologic or neuro-muscular diagnosis of some sort. The fact that her father has the same comdition would seem to suggest genetics are likely involved. Why don't you check out the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association for further information. It is chocked full of good information on the topic, including information on symptoms and diagnosis.
