The results of hammertoe surgery cannot be judged in 7 days. All surgery is traumatic to one degree or another, and the cutting of bone, as is required in most hammertoe procedures does not go unnoticed by the surgerized toe. Patients differ in the ferocity with which their bodies complain about such an insult. So, it is premature to say whether or not the effects you are presently experiencing are harbingers of a problem or simply reflect your body's individualize reaction to the trauma that is surgery.
But if you did your homework well in the evaluating of your surgeon prior to the procedure, then you should have enough confidence in him to believe the answers you are receiving to your questions, and his ability to manage any untoward incident. Certainly your chosen surgeon's answers should be far more respected by you than any responses you might get from those totally unknown to you in this forum, including me. I am always amazed at how quickly those who have voluntarily allowed doctors come at their body parts with sharp instruments appear to lose confidence in his (the surgeon's) ability to correctly answer their post-surgical question and bring them though the after-care period without undue problems. |
