A joint fusion is a procedure that is generally reserved for situations where no further attempt at a functional procedure is thought to be warranted. What medical procedure, or for that matter any other service for anything, can be guaranteed be successful? The best that can be offered in medicine is the relative statistics of success vs. failure in the hands of the doctor performing the procedure, and even then, there are gradations and often a considerable amount of subjective interpretation as to how each might be defined for any particular patient and by any particular doctor. Any patient who receives a guarantee of success from a doctor would best considering running the other way as fast as possible. If you are thinking that such a surgery as you say has been recommended to you will return your foot to "factory-new" condition or even the condition that you would be in if you hadn't had the problem, you're expectations are not reasonable. Finally, the fact that someone might offer either a success or a horror story in response to your request serves no useful purpose in your realistic assessment of the prospects of your own results or how you might consider them. You would do much better to vet your doctor very well, get several opinions if you are uncomfortable with the advice and then put yourself in the hands of the one who, for good and sound medical reasons, you best trust.
