In my initial response, I covered both the non-surgical, palliative treatment and the alternative, generally rather simple and most often successful surgical procedure, which, in my view, is generally the preferred treatment for appropriate surgical candidates. The padding treatment is not curative, and unless the positions of the toes or their compression somehow changes, such padding WILL be a necessary fixture. But if, as you state, the thought of continuing padding occasions fear in you, there are potentially better alternatives as I have indicated.

Don't be like some patients I have seen in the office, who after my offering them two, three or more perfectly reasonable treatment choice, then say to me, "I guess nothing can be done." The choice will be yours.
