Dear Star,
The data is conflicting, as you have realized on your searches. Regarding breast cancer risk - this quote that you have posted adequately discusses the results of studies thus far, and summarizes what we know to date.
Regarding ovarian cancer risks - we do know that infertility is an independent risk factor for ovarian cancer. With that being said, there is conflicting literature published - some saying their may be an increased risk in borderline or ovarian tumors with infertility treatments and others that refute this finding. There was a recent large study that compared rates of borderline and malignant ovarian cancers between IVF patients, the general population, and subfertile women and findings suggest a higher rate of cancers in the IVF population. However, they did not show any dose response relationship (there was no greater risk in those that went through more treatment cycles, or those with higher medication doses). In summary - there may be an increased risk but further studies and longer term data are still needed.
Best Regards,
Keri Greenseid
