Dear Anon,
It is not unusual for cycles to vary depending on protocol. Protocols will often be switched by your physician depending on the patient's prior experience, outcome and response with different medications. Some laboratories do ONLY blastocyst transfers, so that may be the reason why certain clinics report only blast transfers. At these clinics, they do not transfer day 3 embryos no matter how many may be available, so some patients may never get a transfer in these clinics. Whatever clinic you choose, the experience of the lab is important and this certainly varies from clinic to clinic. Egg yield will depend on several factors including patient age, FSH, history, and less on specific protocol. In our own experience, we have seen patients have different responses even with the same protocol. A lot of the variability can be due to the individual cycle alone. So, it is a very complex issue, but it is important for you to be comfortable with the clinic you choose.
Hope this helps and good luck to you!
Best,
Debbra Keegan
