Hi John,

The "big wave edition" Foil at the SHF you're referring to was actually made for Duke Boyd (Hang Ten clothing company and good friend of Bing's), not Rolf. It's 9'5". It's the gun version of the Bing Australian Foil. Yours was made in mid-July 1969 and is probably the standard one, most of which ranged from 7' to 7'6" in length. Turned down rails in the tail, 50-50 in the middle and turned up at the nose; S-shaped deck; wide point of the board is forward of the center, and; a Guidance Fin System setup. I watched Rolf win the Malibu contest in the summer of 1969 on his Bing Australian Foil.

I've seen four or five versions of the Australian Foil lam (logo), two of which are the standard ones that were typically put on the Foils and several others that are cut outs from the standard ones. Bing always let people customize the lam, if they wished to, when they ordered their boards. He'll send you a "birth certificate" for your board and we'll see who it was originally made for.

Yes, we would very much like to see some photos of your Foil. I may be able to tell you more about it once I see the photos.

Tom
