If you can find the serial number on it and let me know what it says, I probably can pin down the year it was shaped. I think it was made a few years after 1971, but the serial number will tell all.

It would probably surf fine, and I don't think it would be too brittle. But, if you want to learn to surf, I'd suggest you get a longer board; depending on your weight something between 8' and 9'6" would be better, especially in small, beginner type waves - the longer the board, the easier it is to catch waves and to stand up.

Check with a local surf shop for a recommendation on who does good repair work in your area (sorry, I don't know).
