Hmmm... I seem to be first in line again, East Coast time, I suppose. Lovely question to consider, so I can't resist jumping in! :)
My thoughts are that the illusions created by the One that is Us are exercises in freedom. No matter how we express our fractal selves, divided images reflective of each other, on a super-conscious/spiritual level we are far from afraid. Our choices are fearless explorations of possibility! Even those selves whom some of our other selves may view as being limited or lost or sad or fearful are still brave explorers! Willing to experience everything, every variation... Knowing that they and their experiences are willing participants in a Universal theatrical production of such magnitude that joyous characters (manifestations of Self) far outnumber less joyful ones... and Knowing that the One Actor who is playing all of the roles is truly, blissfully, happy.
Your title, "Investment," is an interesting point to consider as well... to stick with the second analogy, We are all Investors...Producers of this great Play... some of Us have a vested interest in pursuing other roles, creating more dynamic/evolving characters for ourselves, others of Us have chosen to be the static characters, the sterotypes and archetypes that reflect basic lessons back to the dynamic characters as they advance through the great Acts of the Play... and, yes, some of the dynamic characters evolve enough to be able to see the velvet curtains framing their stage...and so they wonder, and tap other characters on the shoulder to try to show them as well... but few leave the stage before the Final Act, because they are all part of a great company of One Actor, loving every minute of the play.
