David,
Your great uncle was with my uncle when they were both killed on February 9, 1945 near Schmidt, Germany. Your great uncle's nickname was Benny. They were members of the original 508th that started at Camp Blanding in Florida. There are still a few members of E Company that can tell you more than I can.
