Gentlemen, how are you? I'm wanting to learn more on the unit in the 1960s. I know the unit served in Vietnam with pride and before that, the Dominican Republic. I've read the 82d Abn helped to break up the Detroit Riots and kept the peace at the October 1967 Pentagon protest before Vietnam. I've also read that in 1971 the 82d returned to keep the peace once more at the Pentagon. Not a lot is written on the military aspect of these events and only mention of the division.
Was the 508th involved in any of these actions?
I view the 82d Abn Div as the protector of America as they responded to these internal actions. I'm not out to get anyone and I'm on your side. I just want to share the pride of the unit with others, showing the regiment was always on the move. Thank you all for your service, welcome home and Airborne! |
