Dear Sirs, I am the historian for the Alamo Scouts Historical Foundation and I am trying to verify the service of 1LT Howard E. Williams (O-312739) with the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment from aprox 1950-1952.

He completed Alamo Scouts training at the end of the war (Aug 1945, but did not see action with the unit. He did, however, travel to Japan with the Alamo Scouts. He was married to Doris Williams, and had a son, Mack, and daughter, Ann.

Purportedly, he taught demolitions, and was the 508th's intelligence officer, as well at a demolition instructor at the Infantry School, where he instructed Rangers.

In an article published in the Ledger Enquirer (Columbus, GA) 13 Jan 1952, he claims to have been declared missing for 108 days during WWII and to have conducted missions behind the lines for the Scouts. He did not. Furthermore, he claimed to have earned the DSC, 2 Silver Stars, 3 Bronze Stars, and 4 Purple Hearts.

In all likelihood, he is deceased. But given his common name, it has been nearly impossible to find additional information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Lance Zedric
