I am glad we have an opportunity to vote on shooting Steel shot ammo.
I voted No but I want to add my reason why.
1) Steel shot shells in targets loads is hard to find.
2) The ballistics of steel shot is much different than lead and not in a desirable way.
3) Many people do not have a proper gun to shoot Steel thru.I have a couple shotguns, but not a single one to shoot steel.
4) Shells are expensive. One box of 12ga is $12 and up. 410 and 28ga.is $21. Prices are from Midway USA and are without shipping. Not to mention they are "out of stock"
5) Reloading Steel shells is not the same as lead. It requires new loader or changes too the ones you have(not cheap). Getting components when you can't find the common lead stuff will be impossible.
6) We have some type agreement for the shot curtain to be installed and maintained by the city. While not the easiest to deal with I would imagine they would be thrilled to find out about an alternative to having to pay for it.Leaving us in a difficult negotiating position.
I think it would be important to know more than a blind yes or no for the vote. |
