You can believe what someone who chose to wrap himself in the flag, the second amendment and the Old Testament says you should believe about the HF&G Election, but that’s an awful lot like buying into WH Macy’s treatise on the true meaning of Christmas, don’t you think? By all means, do read and analyze the obfuscations and misdirection perpetrated in the “The meaning of our recent election” post. Even those unfamiliar with our Association can recognize it for what it is – a load of pure and unadulterated bunk.
First consider that there was no divisive – division platform or ticket. That is a political contrivance of those opposing the candidates advocating fiscal responsibility from the HF&G Board. It was that opposition that was the sower of division and the leader of the cabal.
Second, there was only one platform published prior to the election and it promoted:
- better including the membership in decision making
- curbing overspending, adhering to budget and better preparation for major expenses.
- reversing the shrinking membership and growing expense trends
- spending the money necessary to make HF&G a better facility whilst getting the best bang for our buck
(the facts are indisputable - membership is down and expenses are up – it’s past time to listen to your Treasurer, Comptroller and last successful Audit Committee)
The above message was then perverted and politicized, hyperbolized and surreptitiously trashed, all for political gain.
Third, you could just as easily ignore that this was largely a political contest and claim victory and overwhelming member support for the fiscally conservative candidates. After all, three of the candidates who pledged to support that platform were not only elected, they were also the top three vote getters of the entire election. Plan to hold them to that pledge. And of course all the directors elect are congratulated and wished the wisdom and stamina to better serve the Association.
So Thank You Dr. Spin! …for those insightful obfuscations and the misdirection. Thank you for manufacturing and promulgating the notion of a divided Association - one fractured by which shooting discipline a member gravitates. How absurd and for what? Political expedience? Again, the only divisive note in this last election was the one between the fiscal conservatives and liberals, but of course you are a smart man and you know this. The candidates with whom you took issue desired nothing more than to be good stewards of the association's facilities and resources and so they advocated thoughtful, reasoned expenditures not in excess of our annual membership revenue. And for this these gentlemen are characterized as a cabal and sowers of the seeds of division?
Bad form, Sir! How dare you condemn a group of conscientious contributors to the wellbeing of this proud Association, especially AFTER the election? Will you spare us no ruse in order to give yourself an undeserved pat on the back? You owe an apology – you who purport to exhibit the traits of a good sportsmanship – you who hold Association cohesion paramount. We all expect better of you.
