More info - Marcrest is actually a name brand NOT the name of the manufacturer. It is a product line created for Marshall-Burns, a division of Technicolor. This sales agency operated out of Chicago and distributed its products by rail and by truck. Marshall Burns contracted with many different pottery companies; including Hull, Royal China USA, Stetson, and Western Stoneware Company to create pieces that were used as premium items for service stations, Western Auto, grocery stores, and movie theaters in the 1950s.
Marshall-Burns wanted to give off the image that the pottery lines were all from one company and required that all the potteries use the same marking system.
Hence, the Marcrest family was born. |
