The “Shotgun Method” and macro photos: I often us this method when your subject is hard to focus on and the movement with in an area is limited. Like an Anemone Shrimp or Fish that sticks around in the same. Simply take as many pictures as time will allow as well the size of your storage media. This method does work those many times when you have either the subject moving or if you are dealing with a surge. It is still important that you try to keep the camera as still as possible. I try in surge to anticipate the surge and snap the shot at the apex of the movement either left or right or front to back. Remember that movement of the camera, especially in low light, will show up as a blur that looks like the subject is out of focus. The nice part of digital you can Shotgun what used to be a whole roll of film and still have plenty of room for the rest of the dive. Just another reason to love digital cameras and the flexibility that they afford the underwater photographer.
I will be leaving the 24th of this Month for Roatan Honduras and will miss the next couple tips. I hope you all have had a great dive season so far and I will be bringing back some more images of a beautiful dive destination. We will let you know how close Dean got to Roatan and if they have had any trouble.
