Roddy , Scotty Myself , and Chuck Naus spirit fished the QCL Big Silver Derby this past weekend .Weather was pretty good while we were there ( changed to Gale Force southerlys on the day we left ).Roddy is still on fire , he elected to NOT retire Chucks ( Rods late father )rod and reel after he won the Sidney derby a few weeks ago while using the same rod which posseses some of Chucks spirit and brought it along to this derby . We were on the last hour of the first day when Rod hooked the 35#er at 11 pulls at Edenshaw .The fish was a challange as Rods leader was about 18 feet long and the fish came unpinned from the mouth toward the end of the fight and remained hooked by a small flap of skin for the balance of the fight .Scotty had to blast the boat into reverse and spin the bow of the boat toward the fish as Rod stood next to him at the transom .The method allowed me to lean over the bow of the boat with my belt buckle holding me onboard while I leaned out and netted the fish by inches as the bow swung closer to the fish . The water was very sloppy which bounced us around pretty good during the fight and the tide had us very close to being in the Kelp .There was another 35# fish caught so the money solution was to combine the first place and second place money and split that purse between contestants .We had a blast and some more pictures are forthcoming .
