Mercury Marine says the hydraulic squeek is a result of the power steering fluid heating up and causing the whine or squeek. The fluid is circulated from the pump to the helm and low fluid level in the pump will cause the noise since it stays hot. In CC boats it is the location of the pump under the helm and the short hose to the helm does not allow for the fluid to cool down. The solution seems to be a ten foot hose coiled up under the consol which allows the fluid time to cool before it gets back to the helm. Hope this helps. |
