I am helping someone find their birth parents. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Valhalla, New York in 1953. He was never legally adopted. He was raised by an older family. He has a copy of his birth certificate and it list his birth mother's name on it. No father is listed. I have searched for the birth mother in the 1940 census but did not find anything that was close to her. The birth certificate does not have much info on it, just name, place fo birth and mother's name.
Is there anyone who has more experience with NY research that could assist me? The mother's name is a common first and last name. His last name is the same as his birth mother's. His first and middle name are not common. He is African American and grew up in Peekskill, NY.
