My ex-husband's mother ran a "baby haven" in Northfield NJ during WWII. He never had a birth certificate, only a baptismal certificate. After his mother's death, his sister told him he was an "ungrateful adopted son" because he had not put a marker on his mother's grave... He said "I have always suspected it, but no one ever would tell me..."
Several years ago a woman came to his sister's home, looking for him. His sister called him & his response was "I am satisfied with who I am. I have no interest, no need to know."
Our son and daughter WOULD like to know, even if only for medical information, but also to find more relatives.
My son and I have done DNA testing with Ancestry, uploaded to FtDNA and GEDmatch. My son is sending in his YDNA test to FtDNA this week.
* Was he actually adopted? * At one point his employer required a birth certificate. He sent to NJ & the response was "Nothing on file." -- sent to PA, as his mother had lived there, too, but received the same result -- nothing on file.. I know NJ records for adoptees are now open... but have no idea where/how to look. I assume my son would need to be the one to search.
