My mother's mother was left in El Reno Oklahoma by her father sometime around 1909/10. She was 18 and not married and found her way to the Maternity Home in Ward 3 Oklahoma City in APril 1910. Census shows her as Ora Nichols doing the cooking age 18 and single.
The story is that she had a baby and while she was working her best friend "Goldie" stole the baby and was never seen again.
Since there was no record of a male child in the census with her, I'm assuming the baby was adopted out from this home sometime before the census was taken in April 1910.
My grandfather was an ice delivery driver and probably met her in the home since she was the cook. They hit it off and were married in June 1911 in Oklahoma City by Rev. Thomas H Harper of Pilgrim Congregational Church.
I'm looking for any information about the Maternity Home and whether adoptions were done out of this location.
Any clues or help would be greatly appreciated.
