It is a story/a collection of stories "Strawberry Fields" by author Jesus "Chuy"Ramirez set in South Texas primarily. The reader follows the main character and his migrant family through his life and his father's life. It has many underlying themes: one which centers on the conflict between being Mexican and American. Some other issues of course racism, the Mexican culture, a matriarch sustaining her family, family, and the rift between a father and a son. It is quite thought-provoking and for us (the children of baby-boomers) puts into perspective the trials our parents underwent having to deal with being from two different worlds. |
