T-Shirt Party Instructions

Materials

Big Bucket #1: T-shirts/bags
Big Bucket #2: Printing machine/towel, extension cord, blue clips to hold up display stencils, sample t-shirts/bags (already completed), brown folder (washing instructions, birthday child’s nametags, display stencils, paper, plastic table cover, sponge for nametag printing), wet ones, small bucket
Small Bucket: Pastels, glitter, paint brushes, scissors, green tape, timer, marker, small spatula
Medium Bucket: picture stencils

Arrival at the party location

• Introduce yourself.
• If they offer to help bring the boxes in, accept the help!
• Find out where the kids will be seated.
o How many kids?
o Make sure the table has a plastic covering. If not, the pastels could ruin whatever is underneath. If there is no plastic covering, we have an extra one in the brown folder.

• Find out where to set up the printing machine.
o If the party involves small children (up to about 6 years), make sure that the station is separate from where the kids will be colouring.
o Make sure there is a plug near the printing machine. Don’t use a power bar, as it may not be powerful enough for the machine. Use a wall plug.

Setting up

• Take the printing machine out of the bucket. The lever should be closed and the towel underneath it. Plug it in and turn it on for a second to make sure there is power (the red light turns on). Then turn it off again.
• Put out the pastels. If the children are younger (under about 7 years), take out all the black pastels and put them in the container with the scissors, etc.
• Unpack timer, paper, scissors, pen, glitter, paint brushes and wet ones.
• Cut out the names (in the brown folder)
• Find a place to put up the blue clips to hold the display pictures.
o Choose which display pictures to put up. You can get a parent to help decide, or just decide for yourself based on the age/sex of the children and the difficulty level of the stencils.
• If there is time, set out the glitter, putting the lids back in the small bucket. Use the top of the small bucket as a tray for the glitter when you bring it to the kids.
o Use the spatula to break the top surface and stir each container of glitter, so that it’s not too hard. Wipe the spatula down with the wet ones every time you change to another colour.
o If there isn’t time at the beginning, you can do this as the kids are colouring with the pastels.
• If there is time, cut the washing instructions (you can do this while the kids are colouring)

Colouring instructions for the kids

When the children are ready to start:
o Explain the rules
o The machine is hot – stay away from the machine
o If pastels are dropped, pick them back up
o Don’t scratch the pictures.
o (If older) Give colouring techniques – spreading pastel with finger.
o Small amount of glitter can be used (if children are younger, parents should do the glitter for them). The layer of glitter shouldn’t be too thick. Great for the boys too – makes picture look metallic. There is also a glow-in-the-dark colour.
o Show them sample bags/t-shirts

**Remember to turn on the machine to 3150 while they are colouring so that it is hot by the time you’re ready to print.

When the children are finished:
o t-shirt size, write it on the back of the picture.
o With the wet-ones, clean up the marks outside the lines.
o Also clean up the marks on the edges of the back of the picture, as this can seep to the other side while printing
Printing:
o Take your time!
o Make sure the t-shirt is facing the right way on the machine, depending on if the picture uses the length or the width of the paper.
o Put one piece of paper inside the t-shirt. Carefully put the picture face down on the t-shirt. The top of the picture shouldn’t be too low on the t-shirt (about an inch below the collar of the t-shirt)
o Make sure the picture is straight. Put a piece of paper on top of the picture. If the paper is dirty, throw it out right away!
o Set the timer to 25 seconds and print!
o Names: On the right sleeve, use the seam from collar to sleeve as a guide of the middle of the sleeve. Place the nametag at the bottom of the sleeve (on the outside of the arm). Remember which side is up. Put the sponge inside the sleeve and press for 10 seconds.

Mistakes
Simple one: cover with silver glitter
Over an important part of the picture: Cover with glitter, press, then lift to expose the area and cover with glitter. If needed, go to the box of picture stencils and remove a solid piece of clear. Place it over the mistake. Press, then let the child colour overtop (or colour it yourself).

Presenting the t-shirts
Sit the children down, and one by one call the children up to reveal their picture. Be amazed at the beautiful work!

And most importantly: HAVE FUN! SMILE! ☺

Clean-up
o Put everything back in the same bucket that you got it from
o Don’t forget the extension cord
o Don’t forget the blue clips and the display pictures
