I am concerned about the Weather Siren miss use. I understand the need for weather warning systems and the importance of early notification. My problem is the frequency of which they are used. I live in the City of Hermitage and have friends in the neighboring towns. We all feel the sirens go off much to often. They have become common place and when they are heard its just another storm warning. Most people that have discussed it in casual conversation dont even pay attention to them any more. They blow for every storm warning and once a month and on occassion they blow when the worst part of the storm isn't even in our area. Is this necessary? The boy who cried wolf comes to mind. When it really matters and there is real danger noone will pay attention because they are so use to hearing them. I have inquired about the protocol from some of my friends and have been told the the City of Hermitage is the control point for multiple sirens in the valley. Hermitage,Sharpsville,Wheatland,Clark,Farrell, and West Middlesex I believe. Do the people in these towns feel the same way? The whisle blowing needs to stop and the sirens need to be used for Tornados like in most places not for every dark cloud that passes over. Every storm warning that issued does not deserve a siren alert. Who else feels this way and what can we do about it?
Thank you.
