I am looking for any information regarding a C-47 named "Dotty Marie" that was stations at Ie Shima or Okinawa from 1945-46. I am trying to piece together my grandpa's war years and photos for our family history. Grandpa, Stephen B. Ellis, was a DV pilot stationed on Ie Shima. He was personal pilot for the island commander Col Thomas and flew two B-25s and a C-47. I am trying to figure out what outfit he flew for. Grandpa passed away a few years ago and now I have stewardship over his military photos. The family trust has given me permission to share copies to any party that can benefit from our mutual cooperation. There are three small grainy photos of his C-47 with the name "Dotty Marie" painted on the nose. It was OD green with a gray bottom. There looks to be a small pile of rocks next to them. That might have something to do with story my grandpa told me of when they dumped a load of rock on a Japanese convoy. I would greatly appreciate any help that can be given. For more information I can be reached at the below address. Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Paul C. Ellis
