Hello my name is Robert and I am a commercial aviation student attending university in Calgary Canada. For a term project, I have been tasked with choosing a plane that i find exciting and writing a report on its history and specifications. When i was told about this project I was immediately quite excited because I had just finished reading a very interesting article from the August 1957 edition of Popular Mechanics titled, "The Saga of the DC-3", by Joseph Stocker. What drew my interest to this aircraft were the tales of its legendary durability, and the fact that there are still some in service 77 years after its first flight. A required portion of the report is an interview with a pilot, mechanic, owner, engineer, or operations manager who has or is currently, flying or working on the aircraft. I am optimistic that some of the folks at the dc-3 historic society might be able to assist me. It is my hope that if I post some interview questions here, a kind soul might answer them. While I cannot provide anything more than my sincerest thanks for the replies I may receive, I will be posting links to scans of the article which initially sparked my interest in the DC-3, in the hopes that it may continue to find new readers.

Feel free to skip any questions. A reply to even one will be greatly helpful.

What was your job or duty working with the DC-3?

When and for how long were you working on/in the DC-3?

What model of the plane did you work with? What special equipment or modifications were there if any?

Have you ever experienced an emergency situation when working with or flying the DC-3? If so please describe it.

In your experience, do you feel that the DC-3 lives up to its reputation of resilience and durability?

What was it like training on/Learning to fly the aircraft? How long did you spend training on it? Is it more or less forgiving than some of the other planes you have flown or worked with?

Are there any eccentricities on the DC-3 that that set it apart from other aircraft?

Was there any event in your career working with the DC-3 that you think personifies your overall experience with the aircraft?

If you've made it this far thank you very much for your patience. I look forward to reading any responses you may have.

Here are the links to scans of the article i referred to earlier.
