Our 3rd Annual Fort Hawkins Easter Sunrise Service was another tremendous success and the weather could not have been more beautiful. We had about 75 folks attend the service and once again we had nine preachers participating - and the service still took less than hour - something akin to a real modern day miracle! Many thanks to your Vice Chairman, Rev. Victor Hunt, for putting together such a powerful community event for the Fort Hawkins Commission. Thanks to Echo Burrell for the photo of the glorious orb rising on the fort's eastern horizon. Your Secretary, Mary Lee Rogers, gave a wonderful Commission Welcome and your Neighborhood Improvement Chairman, John Goolsby, did a great job presiding. Rev. Hunt and our own, Rev. Gammage, also participated in the service Your Chairman in closing used some of the inspiring words from the Invocation by Pastor Dan Humphrey, and from our featured speaker, Pastor David Neely, including the fort's role as a "watchtower" over Macon and the Easter Message that frees us from fear and anger allowing us to approach each dawn, each day with faith, hope and love. It is in that spirit that we should approach all of our lives and especially our work on behalf of Macon's Birthplace. Today's Easter Sunrise Service was a confirmation of our efforts to elevate historic Fort Hawkins and we are indebted to the Interfaith Community of East Macon for helping us accomplish this mission so gloriously today.
